John Darby was born in the Texas panhandle at the end of the depression. He holds a B.S. degree in Education, and for more than a decade taught drafting. In the early nineties, John was called to his new love of painting. His skills rapidly progressed under the tutelage of a number of renowned artists. Working in both oils and pastels, John demonstrates his mastery and versatility in both mediums. Since moving to Taos in 2002, his favorite subject matter are crumbling old adobes and the soaring landscapes of the southwest.
John's achievements include participation in a number
of juried art shows including the 2006 National Juried Competition
where he won an award for his pastel. John is a charter member of the
Society of Master Impressionists and is represented by the Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery and the Tumbleweed Gallery
in Amarillo. During the month of April his work will be part of
Nomadas del Arte, a special southwestern plein-air exhibit at the Southwest Gallery in Dallas.
