Time and place for drawing and painting have always been part of Lee's life. Raising a familyand breeding longhorn cattle did not lessen Lee's love for drawing, although finding the time to do so was sometimes challenging. Largely self-taught, Lee also has a formal education in art - leading her to be constantly striving to improve her talents. Lee has also taught art to both adults and children, in both public and a private settings.
Artwork commissions are Lee's speciality. Commission requests usually consist of a montage of the owner's land, cattle, and lifestyle. Often she must work from photographs of beloved animals no longer alive, places not available for viewing, and a lifestyle needing remembered.
Lee feels that photographs can offer a slice of life, but the "soul" of a painting is knowledge of the subject itself. Without direct experience, an illustration is produced - rather than a work of art. Lee believes that art demands integrity; that to execute a solid and believable work, there has to be familiarity with the subject. Otherwise, there is uncertainty and distortion in the rendition.
Lee feels that her work speaks for itself. Command of composition, drawing, values and emotion/expression are fundamental to Lee's work.
