Although Roger grew up with a family art background, he didn't find his artistic calling until a few years ago when he began creating pieces of art using mesquite wood.
Mesquite is an extremely hard and sturdy wood, making it an excellent medium for carving and shaping. Most of Roger's art pieces are cut from a single piece of mesquite. After the sculpting process is complete, Roger generally will leave portions of the piece unfinished, allowing the original wood to be seen and unique color and burl pattern of each piece better appreciated.
Roger's unique mesquite sculptures have won many awards, and can be seen at Native Texan Crafts located at 604 S Hwy 287 in Henrietta , and at a number of local shows and festivals.
